First US Edition & 1st printing per no. line. DJ is VG; bright & clean w/ minor edge wear, horizontal closed tear in center of spine panel ( less than 1"")- displays extremely well. Book is Near Fine to Fine. Black cloth binding is clean, square & bright- just a trace of sm. corner bumps (almost missed them). All gold spine lettering & impressed author name & title on front are crisp & intact. Text is tight, bright, clean, unmarked. NO remainder mark, NOT ex library. Very handsome, well preserved copy.

(approx. 10 pgs.), 8 full page illus. (all present & attached). Appears to be 1st printing, c. 1865, year 1866 on title page- no note of further printings (editions""). Main problem- pgs 315 to 326 (1 sheaf/ signature) have pulled free of stitching- all together & present w/ no torn pages; book would otherwise be Good- no missing pages. Dark green binding w/ decorative stamped features square, but a bit loose (no endpaper hinge splits); light rubbing & soil, edge wear & corner fray- none severe. Gold spine lettering intact & totally legible. NO spine discolor. Tissue frontis protector & text show scattered foxing spots, but little toning- remarkably bright. A decent representative copy.
