"It is an important work for the history of stagnant incomes, particularly tobacco in the Philippines. Jagor quotes him a lot in his work". EXTREMELY RARE ornithological print from Baron Hyacinthe Bougainville's "Atlas Journal de la Navigation Autour du Globe de la Frégate la Thétis et de la Corvette l'Esperance pendant les années 1824, 1825 et 1826"; pl. 41; published by Arthus Bertrand, Paris. He was given secret instructions to study the situation of the European colonies in Asia, specially the military power of Manila and Singapore, the Australian colonies, Spanish America, and the relative value of ports and routes followed by trading ships with India and China. In the Far East and the Pacific, Bougainville emphasised France's commitment to the region.
