The performances were part of a South American tour by Italian opera singers Teresa Schieroni, Margherita Garavaglia, Domingo Pizzoni, Giacomo Bettali and Mayorga and the Uruguayan violinist, conductor and composer Louis Theophile Planel (who acknowledges receipt of one ounce of gold from a Señor Daliphar). Prince (1687-1758) was pastor at Boston's Old South church, and an antiquarian and collector of New England history. This copy belonged to John Wingate Thornton, a Boston lawyer, antiquarian, author and book collector. He was a member of the American Antiquarian Society and Vice-Present of the Prince Society, a group dedicated to republishing important works of Americana, named for Thomas Prince.
