First US edition, red cloth bound with pictorial cover, identical except for the binding to the British Hodder & Stoughton first edition. Packed to the gills with beautiful black and white illustrations by Heath Robinson and 16 tipped-in full color plates with illustrated paper guards. A much more deluxe undertaking than it seems from the unprepossessing cover.

Front hinge is repaired. Binding is otherwise fairly tight and square. All plates and their guards present and pristine. All interior pages (past the front endpapers) are unmarked and entire. The front endpapers have a crease, an owner's name and some foxing at top right corner -- otherwise fine. The back board is water stained and there is a corresponding, but fainter, water spot on the lower right corner of the front cover. Solution: Don't leave the book sitting face down. Spine looks fine, some wear to top edge. Otherwise, surprisingly little edge or shelf wear.
