Enchanting look at "The gradual development of milling, beginning with the whole gouged and a tree stump, for a mortar in which corn was to be pounded, and a knot of wood for a peso through the use of a stick for a lever to turn millstones, the advance to the wheel and axle with a crank, to the connecting of the axle on shaft with a water wheel or a windmill sail, and so on." I love the style of these illustrations and they serve the topic very well.  Condition is good overall with one large piece on the dust jacket rear missing. Binding and hinges are strong. Dust jacket is very good else tear.

paris: Maurice Glomeau, 1922. Leather. Good. Georges Ripart. #21/26 ex. sur vélin du Marais, double suite des hors-texte. I don't know exactly what this means, but it is a very select copy of the original printing of 1000, being one of 26 which was printed and bound in this manner. Beautiful 3/4 vellum, some imperfections to edges but overall very good. Binding and hinges solid. Pages clean. Illustrations are beautifully colored and fit the book well. New York: Pantheon Books, 1943. First Edition . Cloth. Good. Aristide Maillol. The Woodcuts Of Aristide Maillol 1943 Pantheon First Edition Illustrated. This is the true 1943 1st edition from pantheon books. It doesn't have a dust cover however it looks to be bound in a unique cloth binding with the original cover illustration present. Other 1943 copies I have seen have a blue cover with the same illustration.  After further research and help from another seller (thank you) I have determined that this is 1 of 50 (of the original 550) copies bound this way. The binding was done by Gerhard Gerlach, a prominent German bookbinder. Everything about this book is in good condition some parts are in very good condition. The one significant imperfection is the cloth being detached on the top half of the back inside cover. An easy fix for anyone who knows what they are doing. new york: G.P. Putnam's Sons, 1941. Cloth. Good. Inscribed "to Mrs. Willia Cashman, sincerely, Curt Riess 1942." A fairly rare signature to find from an extremely interesting author. Here are two exerpts from his Wikipedia page: "Curt Martin Riess (June 21, 1902 – May 13, 1993) was a German journalist and writer. Reiss was born of Jewish-German origins in Wurzburg, Germany, and later fled in 1933 to Paris, France not long after Adolf Hitler was appointed chancellor in 1933. Riess received his higher education in Berlin, Munich, Heidelberg, Zurich and Paris, with an emphasis on literature and economics." "Riess attracted attention in the United States in the 1930s and during World War II with his books and widely syndicated reporting about Hitler's Germany. London: P. Rolandi, 1852. Cloth. Good. 1852 Italian And English Dialogues - P. Roland - Translation Manual. While not the most aesthetically pleasing volume, this manual of conversation was printed in 1852 by a rare publisher, P. Rolandi. This also is a fairly early manual of English to Italian translation, and captures some of the jargon of the time. Boston: estes & lauriat, 1892. First Edition . Cloth. Good. Foil And Sabre, A Grammar Of Fencing By Louis Rondelle 1892 First Edition. While fencing hasn't always been the most popular sport, it has always remained in my mind as a symbol of gentlemanliness, agility, and mental skill. It is simply awesome in its expression. This is a classic look at Fencing By "MAÎTRE D’ARMES" at the Boston athletic association and the Harvard University fencing club, Louis Rondelle. The book itself is not in great shape but has many very good elements. The pages are very clean with no foxing or Browning. It seems this book was printed on high quality paper, as even the illustrations seem to have full paper tissue guards (or at least the frontispiece). The binding is an overall good condition despite being a little loose especially from the spine.
