Description:
Suite of 12 etchings (each, 190x141 mm, margins excluded), later applied onto the papers of a nineteenth-century album. The Scola d'Amore exhibits a small poem through images, or rather a 'ricercare' that exploits the development of an iconographic theme - the Education of Love - in all its most inventive implications. Read More

Description:
32° (mm 85x53); A-L8, K6 ; pp. 152, cc. (2). Frontespizio in cornice silografica. Legatura dell'epoca in pergamena.

First editions of Michele Leoni's Italian translation in versi of two Shakespearean masterpieces, as well as the first Italian translation of Romeo and Juliet ever published.
Michele Leoni's translations, established on an English base text (which is difficult to identify at present) and on Pierre Le Tourneur's French versions (like most early 19th century translators), occupy a crucial place in the history of Shakespeare's reception in Italy.
"Leoni's translations did a lot to popularize Shakespeare in a moment when the debate on the English writer was at its height. The first decades of the nineteenth century were fundamental for Shakespeare's fame in Italy, as the influence of the Romantic movement was bringing about more favourable opinions, while the new… Read More
