Description:
First edition. Softcover with dust jacket. Limited to 500 copies. 10 1/4 x 8 1/2 in. 21 black and white photographs. Text in English. Some shelf wear to cover, else fine. During his brief photographic career Sannes became renowned for his erotic imagery, his fascination with women and seduction. The photographs recall the atmosphere of the sixties, which allowed him to experiment with his approach to photography of the female form. After his untimely death at the age of 30, with a photographic career of only eight years, Sannes' oeuvre is still on par with internationally acclaimed Dutch photographers such Ed van der Elsken. Jim Hughes, Camera 35 Editor wrote: 'Sannes, a controversial Dutch photographer, did not make easy photographs. Certainly, he did not make pretty photographs. I'm not even sure he made photographs. He made explorations of people, of their outsides and their insides, and sent back picture postcards of their psyches.' USA customers please NOTE: We ship our books only via USPS Media… Read More

Description:
First edition, 4to.; illustrated throughout in color with very slight foxing to colophon; publisher notes laid-in; gray endpapers; black leatherette boards stamped in gold; original acetate dust-jacket printed in white, unpaginated [348 pp] with 230 images, 11.5 x 8.5 inches. Lacking the slipcase. As one of the best-known commercial photographers in Japan, who also gained notoriety for a series of shocking photographs of writer Yukio Mishima, Kishin Shinoyama masterfully creates cinematic-like sequences from the mundane and ordinary. Composed from numerous double page full-bleeds in rich saturated colors, Shinoyama s A Fine Day / Hareta Hi presents a rich visual experience that encapsulates both the intensities and subtleties of contemporary Japanese culture. Covering a broad range of subjects, from arresting landscapes to theatrical portraits of politicians, Shinoyama astutely combines the journalistic and the personal into a unique and highly subjective vision of postwar Japan. Description:
Since the 1980s, Jo Ractliffe's photographs have reflected her ongoing preoccupation with the South African landscape and the ways in which it figures in the country's imaginary, particularly the violent legacies of apartheid. Alongside her own work, Ractliffe has taught within formal and informal contexts and has also initiated independent public projects that engage photography to reflect on history and memory in South Africa. Her recent exhibitions and books include a retrospective at the Art Institute of Chicago in October 2020 and a monograph by Steidl. Ractliffe lives in Cape Town.
"Rather than capturing front-page acts of violence under the legalized racism known as apartheid, however, Ractliffe found her creative voice by working indirectly—through allegories and aftermath." —Art Institute of Chicago ("Jo Ractliffe: Drives," exhibition: 17 Oct 2020 – 26 April 2021)
