Here is a rare first edition of Dorothy L. Sayers' "Have His Carcase." Sayers was one of the "Queens of Crime," alongside Agatha Christie, Ngaio Marsh, and Mary Allingham. She was a prolific crime writer during the golden age of crime fiction, and her novel "Have His Carcase" was published during the peak of this golden age. It is the seventh novel to feature Sayers' Lord Peter Wimsey and the second to include his love interest, Harriet Vane. Good Condition. Black cloth with red titles to spine. Binding is firm. This is an incredibly rare complete set of Shakespeare's works dated 1745. After Shakespeare's death in 1616, his plays were collected by his friends John Heminge and Henry Condell, leading to the formation of the First Folio in 1623. Eighty-six years later, Nicholas Rowe became the first modern editor of Shakespeare's work. He addressed various textual issues that arose from the conflicting quartos and folio editions of the plays, which had hitherto corrupted the text. Again, in 1723-1725, Alexander Pope published his edition of Shakespeare's works in six volumes. Both of these editions are highly valuable and sought after, and they paved the way for the 1745 edition published by J. and P. Knapton. This is Neville Chamberlain's personal copy of J. Shield Nicholson's "A Project of Empire" with his bookplate on the front pastedown. This is particularly interesting because the theme of Nicholson's book centers around Adam Smith's laissez-faire ideas of economics and Chamberlain, who was first a business man and then served as Chancellor of the Exchequer under Ramsey Macdonald's goverment. Also about the time of this book's publication Chamberlain started to become politically active and in 1911 he successfully stood as a Liberal Unionist for Birmingham City Council. Good Condition. A limited edition of 2000 hand-bound copies, signed by both David Bowie and photographer Masayoshi Sukita to celebrate their 40-year collaboration. This copy is number 1888 out of 2000. The book acts as an illustrated narrative of Bowie's career between 1972 to 2009. Included is iconic as well as previously unseen images of the singer taken on over 40 occasions.
Sukita shot arguably the most iconic photo of Bowie, being the cover shot for his 1977 album "Heroes". Photos range from: backstage with Lou Reed in 1972, shots from Iggy Pop's 30th birthday, The 1978 World Tour and various scenes of Bowie in Japan.
