Description:
London: C. Kegan Paul and Company , 1879. First edition. . Hardcover. Near Fine/No Jacket. A combination of pirated facsimile pages and the first official edition by C. Kegan Paul, apparently produced by or with Richard Herne Shepherd, editor of Tennysoniana and several earlier pirated versions of this same title. Facsimile holograph pages and interwoven with the Kegan text, along with a three page holograph introduction by Shepherd, which makes mention of the earlier piracies. Beautifully bound in ornate tan leather, with gilt patterned endpapers. Light wear to corners - a very good to near fine copy. Presumably, only a very small edition was printed thus, Shepherd having had a passion for rarities.
