Finely bound in contemporary navy blue leather with five raised bands, twelve gilt cross bars, block gilt titles and date 1892 at bottom, cloth sides, new cream endpapers. Binding appears to be fine. The book block has edges are dull but the contents are clean except for a stain, faded in places to the bottom centre of the gathered sections affecting the first section, one other page has a stain on the right corner. No text is impaired. Previous owners' name and numbers to top-right side of title page. Interestingly, the reverse of Part 1 blank page has has a pencil inscription which appears to be a scholarly note about the books findings and value and discusses Hall's later book of 1909 about the ruins. In 1992 the Scorpion Press issued the Detection Club's first signed limited edition of original stories by the illustrious members. It comprised a nunbered run of 125 copies and this is one of the first 15 which was bound in a special binding and boxed. In addition it has a welcome message, hand written by the dedicatee Julian Symons.
The authors are in alphabetical order: Catherine Aird, Eric Ambler, Simon Brett, Len Deighton, Antonia Fraser, Michael Gilbert, Reginald Hill, P D James, H R F Keating, Peter Lovesey, Ruth Rendell, George Sims and Michael Underwood. The signatures are on two pages. The frontis illustration is by Gary Short and it is signed by him.

Written by his wife it covers Tynan professional life - director, critic, writer and his any interesting friendships with among others Olivier, Hemingway, Lennon etc. He devised the West End stage play Oh! Calcutta!. This is a nice copy, with only slight edge creasing to the jacket (which retains its color). Heavy book and may require additional shipping if sending overseas.
