Spine and corners are bumped. Top and fore edges are rubbed and all edges have light soiling. Binding is still tight but gutters are cracked. Front endleaf has previous owner's inscription and back three endleaves have medium foxing and soiling. Text block is clean. This book is a compilation of eulogies given by members of the Senate and House of Representatives for the late Senator, John Alexander Logan. Other than being a very active member of Congress, Logan was a commissioned brigadier general during the Civil War and conceived of the idea of Memorial Day and inaugurated the observance in May 1868. This issue of Black Bear Review features an interview with Navajo painter and printmaker, R. C. Gorman, whom the New York Times dubbed "the Picasso of American Indian art." Brooklyn: D. S. Holmes. Very Good. [1864]. Pro-Lincoln election broadside; measures 10" x 13" with black lettering and decorative border. Broadside has light foxing and ½" tear on right side. Scarce political broadside in pseudo biblical language, supporting "Father Lincoln" over McClellan in the election of 1864. It recounts the Democratic nomination of McClellan who was as "ill-advised" and who listened to the "evil counsels" and argues that only Lincoln would uphold the "People's New Ten Commandments." These Commandments supported liberty and freedom for all, prohibited against any compromise with the "Slaveocracy" and against the desire "to possess thyself of anything relating to the peculiar institutions of thy Southern neighbors." Worcester, MA: Isaiah Thomas. Good. Pamphlet. An early American almanac with engravings. The front illustration is several angels with a globe and scythe. Old inked marginalia throughout, including front wrap. Chipped and worn edges, foxing and toning of pages. OCLC records note 48 unnumbered pages, with this copy seemingly missing three leaves at the rear. The almanac calendars are followed by government information such as the federal court days and locations in each state and current list of United States representatives and senators from the states listed in the title. Publisher, author, and bookseller Isaiah Thomas and his son published these popular New England almanacs for over 40 years, starting in 1775. ; 7 1/2" x 4 1/2" .

Albumen print measures 7 ½" x 9 ½"; with mount 10" x 12". Published circa 1900. Original mount has light wear to edges and light toning; photo has moderate overexposure or sunning but content can still be clearly viewed. A. M. Thomas was a photographer active in Central City, Colorado from 1900-1901 (Mautz p. 209). With no title and little information on Thomas, the specifics of this image are a mystery to this cataloguer. The image is set in the Rocky Mountains, likely near Central City, Colorado, with a creek at the center of the image, a railroad track on the left, a wood-plank retaining wall on the right, and a few sets of pipes running along and across the creek. .

Published circa 1900. Original mount has light wear to edges and light toning; print has damage or soiling in the negative; lighting was likely an issue when taking the photo, the contrast is only good. The Americus Gold Mine was located near Black Hawk, Colorado. In 1895 the walls of the Americus and nearby Sleepy Hollow mine broke and flooded the shaft, killing over a dozen people. A. M Thomas was a photographer active in Central City, Colorado from 1900-1901 (Mautz p. 209). .
