Hardcover [octavo], publisher's drab boards backed with brown cloth, 11 hand-colored plates produced recto only on 8 leaves (with three leaves bearing a pair of related plates). Very Good, edges and corners rubbed, boards soiled and toned, foxed to inner boards and endpapers but etching plates remain bright and mostly clean save the stray fox mark, some light offsetting from hand-coloring to opposite blank page.. First edition of Thackeray's humorous etchings of University life, reproduced from the original plates and hand-colored by the publishers. Black and white edition is considerably more common on the market -- as of this cataloging, ours is the only hand-colored found.
