London: ELliot Stock. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1927. First Edition. Hardcover. Edited with notes, and the Author's Life by Sarah F.Rowe....which is quite interesting! Green cloth with gilt titling to the spine and gilt titling and a Leaf motif decoration to the front board. Some light staining to the Rear board only. All Edges Gilt. There is an ink (biro) dedication on the front free endpaper "To Mrs Conway from R. Van Straalen Junr 23.8.60" No other inscriptions. There is a Greeny-blue monotone Frontis illustration and 9 other b/w illustrations - no artist listed and I am presuming that they are by the Author. 272 pp. No other copies avilable at time of listing and this looks to me very much like what we would call today a 'vanity' publication despite the accreditation of a major Publisher?. Small amount of 'rubbing' to extremities, and head and tail of spine sl bumped, but overall a VG plus copy of a School girls Annual of this period. ND but c. 1920s/30s? The Full page, full colour frontis is on shiny 'art' paper and the rest of the book is on the usual coarse grained cheaper paper. Having said that this is a really nice tight clean example of a period piece! 'Powder blue' spine with White lettering and pictorial paper covered boards which have a full colour illus of two uniformed schoolgirls sitting on a style as hounds, followed by huntsmen on horses, jump the adjacent hedge. Illus in b/w throughout. First story is 'Drusillas Luck' by Jessie Leckie Herbertson, and other authors include Irene Mossop, Primrose Cumming, Jean Morley etc, etc. Really nice copy.; 10017 .

The book came from the Library of the late Arthur Giardelli, the well-known Artist, from Pembrokeshire latterly. In English with Welsh Translation.
