GIlt-ruled half morocco and decorative green cloth, gilt-stamped lettering and detail on spine, 5 raised bands, t. e. g.; illustrated throughout, with four-color lithographs and full-color tipped-on plates. A lavish production. Spine a bit sunned; some light scuffing along joints and edges of boards; a little faint browning on prelims and terminals, otherwise internally bright and clean. A lovely copy.

Adidas, 1979. Ephemera. Fine. Photographic postcard, a full-color image of Waitz on one side, a b/w image on the other. Signed by Waitz on the full-color side. Grete Waitz (née Andersen, 1 October 1953 - 19 April 2011) was a Norwegian marathon runner and former world record holder. In 1979, she became the first woman in history to run the marathon in under two and a half hours. She won nine New York City Marathons between 1978 and 1988, more than any other runner in history. She won a silver medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and a gold medal at the 1983 World Championships in Helsinki. Her other marathon victories included winning the London Marathon in 1983 and 1986. She was also a five-time winner of the World Cross Country Championships. This postcard was issued to celebrate her 1979 acceptance of the Nurmi Award for Female Runner of the Year.

Spine creased and a little chipped; creases and small chips along edges of covers. Contents are crisp and clean. A particularly rich issue of this showcase for printing techniques, advertising, and art -- this one with 20 presses represented.

Tiny speck of soiling on spine; some light scuffing along joints and edges of boards. Overall bright and clean, in a lovely binding.

From the estate of Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. (1909-2000), an iconic American actor (credited with more than 50 films, including the starring role in “Gunga Din”), and a highly decorated naval officer of World War II. Dietrich sang "Song of Songs" opposite Fairbanks for Lux Radio Theatre in December 1937, though their personal and professional connections go much deeper than that. (They were lovers for a spell. Fairbanks admits in his memoir "A Hell of War" that she was "too sophisticated" for him.)

Contemporary calf; a curious copy with spine label of unrelated French book: Lecons de Physique. Belonging to a previous young gentleman, Thomas Raynes, with ink notes to title. This title was popular and went through many editions.

Second edition of a rare literary history of Hungary first published in 1785.

Publisher's green cloth, gilt-stamped lettering in morocco spine label; complete set of 4 volumes, 8vo; pp. lx, 508; [2 (title-p., blank)], 511; [2], 507; [2], 566. Bindings remain tight and square, but are otherwise shabby -- cloth scratched and scuffed; spines sunned, and chipped at tips; corners bumped. Text blocks, however, are near fine, with just a little faint foxing here and there. An excellent working set, or candidate for rebinding.
