Elaborate headpieces, tailpieces, and decorative capitals. Half-title present (detached). This, and the final page (Epilogue) slightly soiled.General toning, due to aging. First perfomed in Jan. 1750 with Garrick in the part of Edward and Barry as French nobleman Lord Ribemont. Shirley quarrelled with Garrick, and wrote Brief Remarks on the original and present State of the Drama' with a humorous dialogue called Hecate's Prophecy' in which Garrick was mocked under the name of Roscius. William Shirley (1739-1780) was primarily a merchant, heavily involved in business ventures in Portugal., and was considered somewhat of an authority on international trade and commerce.
