Providence, RI: Rumford Chemical Works. 1908. 241pp. This book is well-used. The rear hinge is starting to crack, though the board is still solidly attached. The front and spinal text is very faded. Many pages are dog-eared and/or stained, as are the boards. Laid in are a few recipes cut from box tops and such, and many blank pages are filled with additional hand-written recipes. The presumably first owner's name is written on the f.f.e.p, along with "May 7, 1915". This book won't look pretty on the shelf, but it's great if you'd like to try some 114-year-old recipes! The only real visible defects to this book are the bottom corners are bumped, the d.j. at those corners is a little crumpled, and the first 20 pages or so have a little dent at the bottom corner, not affecting any text. Indianapolis: The Bobbs-Merrill Company, Inc.. 1954. 192pp. LOC #54-6067. This is #78 of the "Childhood of Famous Americans" series. The blue boards show a little soil darkening at the top 1/2", and the bottom corners are slightly bumped. Other than that, the book is in fantastic shape for 70 years old. The d.j. is good, with wear to the edges and typical 1/2" tears at the top and bottom of the backstrip and a few 1/8" tears at the top and bottom of the front and back panels. The coloring on the d.j. backstrip is a little sun-faded, but the other artwork is bright. The inside is clean and unmarked.
