Seventy-two coloured lithograph plates - each part with twenty-four plates. Separate title page for each part. Each page is an A-Z, with text in French and a full page chromo-lithograph illustration. The boards and spine are in excellent condition. Internally generally clean and tidy, with a little darkening. Former owner's signatures and a little spotting to the first title page. Overall a very attractive copy. The author states that the alphabetic form which he has adopted has a twofold aim: 1. Half leather binding with gilt decoration and titles to the spine. Marbled boards. A touch of bumping / handling only. Marbled end papers. Internally mainly clean and tidy, with a little marking / darkening to the pages. French and Latin facing pages help with the translation / reading of the text. Originally published in 1827, this was abridged from a longer Latin primer by Lhomond. Overall an attractive copy of this reprint. Title, preface, a dedication to the Queen Regent (written by "the Maids of St Joseph") the text of the prerogatives. This is in fact an anti-catholic pamphlet from William Clagett. William Clagett (1646–1688) was an English clergyman and pamphleteer, particularly active during the reign of James II. As well as his own pamphlets, he would translate particularly colourful Continental Catholic material, with the aim of making the Catholics an object of ridicule. This is one of those pieces. A nice copy of this pamphlet. Apart from a a few slight marks, the pamphlet is clean and crisp throughout and well bound together.[ii] i-xv, [i], [vi], 1-20. pp. WING A108.

Rome: Accademia di Religione Cattolica, 1830. Reprint. Excellent condition. The wrapper is clean and bright. A nice piece of marbling! Internally clean and tidy throughout with just a very slight creasing. . Soft marbled wrapper. A prospectus for Academy of Catholic religion -including lists of those honorary censors and a list of the topics to be covered at the academy in the next year. Included in the list are Cardinal Wiseman and Cardinal Thomas Weld. This was one of the Papal academies at Rome. The academy was an association of learned men, rather than an academic institution (hence the long list of Cardinals involved!). This academy was founded in 1801 with the aim of defending the dogma and moral teaching of the Church. Monthly meetings allowed for themed discussions. The academy still exists and is located in the palace of the Cancelleria Apostolica.

Quarter leather with marbled boards. gilt title on label to spine. Owner's bookplate to the inside board. Scarce First Edition. 16 engraved plates (2 folding) - Complete. The binding (later re-back) has been done a little tight, so there is some breaking to the first gather. One of the plates has scuffing to the surface (not particularly noticeable). Scarce reprint (improved and revised 10th edition) of the original business pamphlet had become necessary as, within three years of the original, the contents were viewed more as a practical text book than a promotional item. At the time, saccharin was considered be a good inclusion, as - to quote this booklet - it never creates acidity or heartburn, and is, in these respects, far healthier than sugar! Blue soft covers are a little creased at edges, and inside the staples holding the booklet together are somewhat rusted. Overall good. 48 pages. 210 x 135 mm (8¼ x 5¼ inches).

Philadelphia: Privately printed for the Pierre Louÿs Society, 1926. Scarce in original dust jacket. Limited edition of 990 copies, 930 of which were for sale. This is copy #833. Hardback under wrapper in original gilt stamped pictorial blue cloth. Ten beautiful illustrations by Clara Tice; including the erotic colour frontispiece, and nine other full-page two colour plates with gold and silver highlights. This was first published as 'Les Aventures du roi Pausole' in 1900. The dust wrapper is a lightly soiled, and has one small nick to the front at the top. Overall the dust wrapper, book and contents are all in a very good condition. Some pages remain uncut. As we list it, we can find no other copies of this version for sale online with the original dust wrapper. xv, 327 pp. 240 x 170 mm (9½ x 6¾ inches).

Paris . In the mid 19th century, Bilbille went from Paris to Leipzig fair, via the fabric producing towns of Mulhouse and Saint-Gall, buying and selling fabric samples. This original hand embellished advertising poster has been created to promote an industrial collaboration. It shows a fashionable female of the time in a dress which has been highlighted in places with a lighter colour. We have not been able to find anything else like this online or in auction records.
