First edition, first state of the final novel and the thrid in the loose trilogy preceeded by ' El túnel' and 'Sobre héroes y tumbas;' representing the author's most experimental work due to its fragmented narrative structure. In original paperback wrappers with white and orange to covers and spine. Some creasing, including to spine, shallow chipping, and gernally worn but solid. Interior flaps present and holding firmly, no clips. The interior is lightly and evenly toned, otherwise it is clean and clear.  Pages: 528 (8)     Dimensions: 7 x 5 x 1 .

Very tight spine, unread condition.

In original, clipped, dust jacket in mylar with rubbing, creasing, some small chips, and a tear on front right turn-in; good+ condition. Red cloth over boards with debossed device on front and gilded lettering on spine. Corners barely bumped, and some rubbing to edges. Notes on copyright page and on final blank. Interior is lightly toned, otherwise clean and clear.

New York: Random House, 1959. BCE. Good+. In original, clipped, dust jacket with a tear at head of spine, a few spots, and some minor chips. Cream cloth over boards with red and black panels on spine and gilded lettering inside. A few stains to covers, gently bumped corners, and a little dusty. Top fore edge stained blue with a few spots on bottom edge. Red endpapers with inscription on ffep. Pages until text are colored red and an orange-cream color. Interior clean and clear. Book club edition based on mark on back.

Notes and bookplate to pastedown and ffep of volume one. Early signature of former owner (Mary Ann Knight) on each title page.
