Oxford: I. L. [Lichfield] for Henry Curteyn, 1629. Disbound. Fair binding. Small quarto. [16], 340 pp. First and only edition. Title within lovely woodcut border. Lacking final 4 leaves (7 pages of text and a blank). Disbound. Binding remains on the spine; ex-library copy with perforation-stamps on title and the leaf following; generally age toned, soiled, and dog-eared, but fairly solid research copy despite the lacking 7 pages. Sole edition of this Calvinist/Puritan treatise by a prominent member of the Westminster Assembly. The address "to the Reader" states that the book is "the summe of sundry Lectures deliuered in mine own Charge" St. Magnus, London, and that some had accused him of altering what he had preached before publishing it. Uncommon in commerce. Madan I, p. 143. ESTC S107058.

Some light soiling to the bottom edge of the textblock; spine a bit sunned; contents are clean and binding is solid. A nice copy of an uncommon and desirable book. Description:
Boston: Little, Brown, and Company, 1925. Hard Cover. Very Good+ binding/Very Good dust jacket. Octavo. [8], 313 pp. First edition, first printing. In publisher's cloth with dust jacket. An extremely fresh copy with little wear to speak of; contents are clean but for a Birmingham, AL bookseller's ticket on the front free endpaper; dust jacket is fairly nice with only light edgewear and soiling; price intact on the front flap. Born in Charleston, SC, Cohen was a prolific author. A collection of stories starring among others, Florian Slappey who was perhaps Cohen's most popular fictional character--a caricature of a black man from Birmingham. While Cohen purported to have a great deal of affection for his characters and wrote them with well-meaning affection, the patronization is apparent. Fairly uncommon in this condition.
