She had earned her bachelors degree at the University of Washington and did graduate work at Radcliffe and Yale prior to becoming a professor at the University of Oregon, where she taught between 1924-1950. In 1961, the Oregon Historical Society published her book Trouping in the Oregon Country: A History of Frontier Theatre.
