Two Congdon brothers have put their names & addresses in 6 places inside front & ear covers, with one other name, all from Elmira, NY. "Congdom" neatly pencilled on the otherwise blank spine. Book's rear cover with a baseball with Ruth's name matched by "Joe Congdon". The Congdon's seemed to have liked this book. .

Since the leaves simply do not band they crack near the spine. This is a manufacturing defect. Otherwise internally NEAR FINE. Both cover chromos still quite bright. .

Penultimate entry by the father, dated Sept 9, 1912. Last entry, by mother, reads "Marion F Colburn died August 6, 1923". A very early Smith work. .

The color plates are some sort of lithography. The fold out does seem to be a hand done water color. .

No other internal flaws. Book tends to stay closed when stood on its spine. A few minor cover flaws. One lower tip is worn through to the underlying board, other extrems scuffed a bit. Back cover with two quarter size lighter areas. Book's title reflects how author got into the majors. He'd had to quit school in 8th grade so he never played high school ball, nor, obviously, college ball. .
