Description:
Santa Fe, New Mexico: John Muir Publications, (1977). 224pp. Approximately 10 7/8" x 8 1/2." Illustrated card wrappers. Moderate handling wear to outer wraps, notably scuff to front, lower-center. Contents clean, binding sound. About good-plus. The scarce first Spanish-language edition of John Muir's classic Volkswagen repair guide. Originally self-published in 1969 by Muir, an accomplished structural engineer who "dropped-out" of typical society, in the contemporary 1960's vernacular, to work on the Volkswagen Beetle models favored by hippies and counter-culture scenesters, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. With illustrations by Peter Aschwanden, the book is a classic of the automotive genre, still in print (currently in its 19th revision). This Spanish-language edition was originally published in 1977 in an unknown, though probably small run, and saw a second revision in 1980. It is scarce to encounter and its fragile production, coupled with its intended use as a hands-on guide, finds few survivors with… Read More

Description:
DeKalb, Illinois: DeKalb Agricultural Association, Inc., [1959]. Approximately 8" x 5" binder with corporate logo to front. Approximately 150pp. Stiffened leather wraps over metal snap ring binder assembly. Gilt logo design to front. Generously color illustrated. Interior binder separated from outer wraps. Else clean. About very good. An illustrated salesman's pitch binder carried by an agent of the DeKalb seed corn company. The volume opens innocently enough with boldly lettered sales pitches on increased yields, drought resistance, etc... though takes an unmistakably phallus-obsessed turn in its 50pp.-plus illustrated section on the firm's available seed varieties, each with about a page of descriptive text and a succint heading with terms like: "Great Workhorse" : "Pour-it-On" ; "Real Comer" ; "Big Producer" ; "Pours it Out" ; etc... Numerous page scans shown here. An uncommon, intriguing, and curious production. Presented without additional comment.

Description:
[Corona, California]: Various including Rainey's Photos and Earl Stubbs Racing Photography, [ca. 1970's]. 100 approximately 8" x 10" photographs. Each single weight prints, 65 black and white ; 35 color. Typically with photographers stamps to versos, most black and white prints with camera setting notations to versos in black wax pencil. Some ocassional, mild handling and corner wear, overall very good and better. A stellar archive of motorsports photography documenting the circa-1970's figure-8 racing scene at Southern California's Corona Raceway. Operated from about 1971-1984, the track grounds consisted of a 1/2 mile dirt oval with a smaller 1/4 mile and figure-8 track inside. The community spirit of the rather low competition level stock car circuit shown here is on full display in vivid color and black and white photographs highlighted (in our esteem) by a series of 7 portraits in front of a large red curtain, presumably an awards ceremony of sorts, and dozens of clear, flash-saturated side… Read More
