The first book from Richard and Shirley Docter's press, reprinting an article "A Plea for Yosemite" originally written around 1907.  Galen Clark was Yosemite National Park's first guardian and his essay gives a brief history, describes the tourism and current developments in the park at the time, and urges for more environmental protection.  A scarce book.  .

Loose front endpaper, loose title, and then remainder of signatures, including rear endpaper, attached to each other with remnants of an old spine, and laid in. Old stab holes to inner margins, some moisture staining and smudging, though text remains legible. A fair, incomplete copy. An unfortunately incomplete yet intriguing copy of Lilly's short work on eclipses, which includes both the author's and Ptolemy's methods of judging.   Present is the armorial plate of Charles II, King of Scotland, England, and Ireland, with initials C. Mixed lot of four copies of Lansdale's stand-alone mystery/thriller set in East Texas during the Great Depression.  The UK proof is quite uncommon.

London: Sunday Times, 1960. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Near Fine. Autograph manuscript, signed by Sitwell in blue ink, of her review of Colin Wilson's first novel, "Ritual in the Dark," for the Sunday Times. 4pp on lined paper with corrections in red ink. In her review, Sitwell highly praises the work, as did many other critics of the time. This helped catapult the existential mystery/thriller to great success, and coming on the heels of that of his immensely popular book, The Outsider, helped launch what would be a prolific and influential career for Wilson. Included is a wonderful copy of the first edition published by Gollancz, near fine with light tanning to page block. Jacket shows some wrinkling and edge wear and is complete with scarce publisher's wraparound band.

San Francisco: Willard Worden, 1915. Eight 5x3"gelatin silver cameo prints, mounted on heavy card and hand colored. Laid in is original Willard Worden studio label. Bit of wear and few pencil annotations to verso. Few show light discoloration around edges, else nearly fine and housed in a custom cigar style, black box. Beautiful set of cameos of the American silent film actress of San Francisco, Edna Purviance (1895-1958).  Charlie Chaplin famously cast her as his leading lady, first in A Night Out in 1915, after an associate discovered her at a Tate's Cafe in the city.  She would go on to appear in 33 of Chaplin's productions.   Photographer Willard Worden (1868-1946) was active in San Francisco at the turn of the century, producing beautiful views of city and later documenting the disastrous earthquake of 1906.  He is most well known for his images, taken at the peak of his popularity, of the Pan Pacific International Exposition of 1915, which displayed the city's resurgence on the world stage.. Of particular interest is the material on the organization of Wyoming territory which was formed in 1868 from parts of Dakota, Idaho, and Utah territories via the passing of the Wyoming Organic Act by President Andrew Johnson.
