Description:
Nine albums, ca. 103 pp. each, consisting of photographic depictions of human figures of various ages, sexes, and "ethnic and character types" in poses and situations useful for illustration reference in art and advertising. Folio. Very good. Spiral bound books housed in printed vinyl album covers. [1512]
According to the introduction to Set No. 1: Male and Female, Full Figure and Hands, "This rich source of material enables experienced artists and student to spend their time producing work rather than posing models, taking expensive photographs or searching for references. Each figure is shot from a variety of heights and angles. It is the equivalent of being able to pose a professional model, walk around model and choose the view you want from the height you want. Such an advantage enables the artist to develop technique and also speed." The resulting publications are mesmerizing, showcasing a tremendous amount of social and cultural assumptions about gender, race, aging, and ethnicity. While… Read More

Description:
Three issues, 144 [2],163 [7],186 [17] pp., comprising a complete run of the noted conceptual art journal. 4to, ca. 27 cm. Very good, with endemic light toning to the interior pages. Illus. stiff wraps. [600]
Founded by members of the New York Art & Language circle in 1975, the present serial arose out of frustration with the perceived elitism of the originary British contingent of Art & Language. The renegade effort was short-lived, however. By the third issue, tensions within the American group lead to a controversial decision to end the publication and effectively disband the group, rendering the implied solidarity of the six editors' co-signatures on the first black page of issue 1 in the present set all the more poignant. Unsigned issues are common in the marketplace, but the signed edition of no. 1 is extremely rare. Artists' Magazines, pp. 261-2; In Numbers, pp. 70-73.

Description:
48 pp. bound typescript with manuscript corrections, German language. 4to. Very good. Black paper wrappers with title texts and author in white ink. [1315]
A fascinating original work, perhaps by an advanced student or young teacher, concerning the political pedagogy of Friedrich Ludwig Jahn, founder of modern gymnastics, and his importance for German ethno-nationalism's spiritual and athletic preoccupations. The text is a chilling demonstration of the links between the sport of gymnastics and ideas of physical perfection and the purification of bodies that Nazis advocated. We believe it was never published. No record in OCLC.
