Little, Brown and Company, 1950. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Lawson, Robert. Early printing in same year as the first edition. Grey cloth under yellow & green dust jacket. Slight wear to edges of DJ, price-clipped. Lawson's illustrations have a different tone than much of his children's illustrations; for example, his image of the slave for the "Slave Catcher" segment is both stark and inspiring.

Description:
Indianapolis: The Bobbs-Merrill Company, 1940. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Good/Good. Full beige cloth with blue & red lettering and decoration to front cover and spine, top edge stained red, other edges untrimmed, pictorial dust jacket, 8-1/8" tall, 290 pp. Only real flaw to book is that an inscription has been cut out of the front endpaper, about 40% of endpaper is removed along a diagonal, but "otherwise a lovely copy" as we say. Dust jacket has a chip removing part of author's name to front panel, toning to spine, price-clipped. The author's novel about the Smoky / Appalachian Mountains in East Tennessee. Sorry about the front endpaper, but it is priced accordingly.

Description:
No date or publisher, 6" tall, 13 pp. Stapled wraps with printed cover, very good condition.
A brief memoir of a young man's experiences working at a head shop in Bellingham, Washington. In the span of 13 pages, he takes marijuana, LSD, and heroin; befriends a Hell's Angel; takes a buying trip to Haight Ashbury; has sex with a woman who also had sex with Charles Manson; attends a Who concert; publishes a book and records a song (both fail commercially); talks his way out of being busted by the cops; goes through two relationships with women; avoids a homosexual encounter; and stops taking drugs. Presumably at least partly fictional—especially the part where they drive through Los Angeles on their way from Bellingham to San Francisco, unless the drugs were better than they realized.

Horace Liveright, 1929. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. Full dark orange cloth with embossed lettering to front board, lighter orange lettering & decoration to spine, blue & green dust jacket with $3.00 price intact, 8-5/8" tall, 339 pp. Slight turning in at extremities, bookplate to front endpaper; dust jacket lightly toned at spine, small closed tears to edges, small hole (size of a skinny ladybug) to rear panel; presents very well. Anderson's writing had a significant impact on the development of American literature, particularly through his focus on the lives of ordinary people and his rejection of the romanticism and sentimentality that had characterized much of American literature up to that point. "Hello Towns" chronicles one year in the life of such a town.
