The author, who may have been at the head of the manuscript project, is unknown, but for some drawings he used the reverse side of the documents from the family archives where the name of Le Tellin de Grandval reappears - perhaps a trail for his identification? This nicely drawn pen illustration is part of 63 maps and 53 figures, 22 sites and monuments, 11 types and costumes, 9 zoological representations and 11 botanicals. pages 369-475 cover Asia. Condition: tight margins, with folds as issued, otherwise excellent.

hand-coloured copper engraving. Superb botanical print from 'Hortus Eystettensis', one of the earliest and most stunning Botanical Books ever created. It is based on the garden of the Eichstaett/Bavaria Bishop, Prince von Gemmingen, whilst destroyed by Swedish troops, later restored and maintained for many years. Besler, an apothecary & botanist from Nuremberg, Germany, took 16 years to complete the original drawings: 367 plates, more than 1000 species; 10 artists & engravers were involved.The work was completed in 1613 and 300 copies were issued. EXTREMELY RARE copper engraving in exceptionally pristine condition. No individually sold copy could be traced in recorded map sales worldwide except for one sold within the last few years. To our knowledge, this then is only the second.
Extremely rare map and almost impossible to find on its own as it forms part of the 14-volume set of Juan de la Concepcion's 'Historia General de Philipinas' (Manila, 1788-1792), This set includes 10 maps engraved by Cipriano Bagay - the son of Nicolas de la Cruz Bagay - and Felipe de Sevilla, native Filipino (Tagalog) engravers / publishers. The map appeared in volume 2, between pp. 223/224 - an impressive colonial cartographic engraving, which is generally found in bad condition. wood engraving. View from "La Perse, La Chaldée et la Susiane" by Jane Dieulafoy. Explorer Jane Dieulafoy documented her explorations through what is now Iraq and Iran. While traveling with her husband Marcel, Dieulafoy dressed in men's clothing, a practice she continued even while in her native France. Condition: minor stains and dirt spots along margins, slightly affecting plate, paper creases.
