Description:
13.25 x 9.5" album with a black spine and white-grey textured cover. A name which appears to read Victor Wouter is written on the inside front cover, along with a label for LITOSROJ, which I believe is the factory in India pictured inside. The album is full of 20 large black and white photos with captions written in English. They include photos of EOT (electric overhead traveling) cranes and related equipment prepared for places in India, including Panchet Hill Power Station, Koyna Power Project in Bombay, Durgapur Thermal Power Station, and the Bhakra Nangal Power Project in Punjab. There is also a view of a large crane arrangement for Bhakra Dam, which the caption states "the greatest crane in India." All of these projects have to do with power plants and dams across India. The neatly handwritten annotations accompany each photo and describe the carrying weight for the cranes in tons and notes photographs of test loading, trolleys, outdoor crane cages, and girders. The photographs are largely… Read More

Description:
This 12 1/4" x 8 15/16" x 2 1/4" keepsake album, jammed pack with about 45 photos, clippings and memorabilia, was compiled by Ms. Lois Ann Conover, b. Iowa 1925- d. Colorado 2001 Athletics seemed to be her main interest - Yachting, baseball, football, basketball, sailing, golf, tennis, swimming - all are featured in the large quantity of clippings and photos, both loose and pasted-in. Ms. Conover was herself an avid sailor and an able skipper, on her boat 'Peck-Away'; she belonged to the Clear Lake Yacht Club and many of the brief clippings document races she sailed in. She placed respectably and clearly relished single-handed sailing. From 1943, we find graduation invitations, enlistment notices, engagement notices, wedding invitations, dance invitations, and a high-school basketball tournament official program. Conover's report cards abound. In 1942, at seventeen, she began to write obituaries of deceased famous people for the local papers - Alice Hegan Rice, Albert Payson Terhune - these are… Read More

Description:
A young American patriot, Harold J. Wusterbarth, wrote a 5 page, 1166 word collegiate essay on the interwar period of the early 20th century, specifically to do with the prevailing dictatorships in USSR, Germany, and Italy. Wusterbarth's derisive essay accentuates the relinquishment of personal liberties by way of authoritarian dictatorship. He does not wish to see the Nazi-regime or any other like it to spread in the democratic state of America, as his closing remarks reflect: "The sooner America awakens to the fact that totalitarian state can be established here, as they have been set up in Europe, the longer America will remain as our forefathers visualized it: a nation of strength and unity, a land of opportunity, a country free from the despotic rule of autocracy, a virtual "Land of the free and home of the brave". This typeset essay has been marked in pencil by Wusterbarth's teacher. Phrases are underlined, others are circles, and light marginalia is provided. Wurtherbarth received an A+ on… Read More

Description:
Twenty-three photos, including twenty-one portrait photos measuring 6.375" x 9.5" and two group photos measuring 8" x 9.75." Most of the portrait photos have hand written dedications "To True," with one "To Kid Cyclone," usually signed with the first name only. A couple of the photos have no writing on them. I believe these are from the Ivy Club at Princeton University. Two are dated, 1925 and 1926, a few say "yours in Ivy," or "fraternally," and written on the verso of the two group photos is "Ivy Club." On one of these group photos, it also has an address in Hollywood, CA written on the back in ink, but it looks like it was added later. Also, one of the group photos is credited to "White Studio" in NYC, which was known for theater and group portraits. Other interesting things included one photo with hand drawn musical notes, one man wrote his full name, Ev Bowen, and written on the verso of one is "K.T. Willetts, 1925." The Ivy Club is the oldest eating club at Princeton University.
