New York: Hyperion, 2011. First. Hardcover. Fine. This set, featuring 8 audio CDs, the transcripts, and introductory material, is an incredible piece of history. Jackie Kennedy was famous for keeping her personal life private, and rarely spoke publicly about her time with President John F. Kennedy. However, in 1964, just a few months after her husband's death, Jacqueline Kennedy recorded seven interviews about her marriage and political life as part of an oral history project, which was not released to the public until after her death. With this set you can both listen to the complete interviews, which provide a uniquely intimate perspective on American history, and read them. Introductions and annotations by the well-known presidential Michael Beschloss and a foreword by Caroline Kennedy. Illustrated with black-and-white historical photos of the Kennedys. The conversation topics range from JFK's relationships with his staff to descriptions of international visits to Canada and France to the…

Description:
New Haven: American Federation of Arts, Yale University Press, 1999. Hardcover. Fine/Very Good. A catalog for an exhibition organized by the Yale Center for British Art and the American Federation of Arts, James Tissot: Victorian Life/Modern Love features nearly a hundred paintings, prints, and watercolors, mostly in color, from nearly every phase of the artist's career in the last half of the nineteenth century. Tissot, himself known as a dandy, documented the vanities and flirtations, not to mention the fashions and foibles, of the monied classes of his times, mostly in Paris and London, and usually with a sense of humor about it all. Susan P. Casteras, professor of art history at the University of Washington, said in her review that this book was "intended for various audiences, and as such is definitely an admirable general source to add to library shelves." "The catalogue is divided into useful thematic sections....The entries are full of interesting asides, details, and implications,"she…

Description:
Bangkok: Archipelago Press, 2001. Hardcover. Fine/Very Good; two 1/2-inch closed tears at corners. Scarce in fine condition. Jim Thompson lived a fascinating life. Born in Delaware, the son of a textile manufacturer, he became a 1928 Olympian in the sport of sailing. During World War II he served as a spy in the United States Office of Strategic Services, which brought him to Thailand. After moving to Thailand, he founded the Thai Silk Company Limited, helping to revitalize the Thai silk industry. Later, in 1967, Thompson mysteriously disappeared in the Cameron Highlands in Malaysia, was never found, and was presumed dead in 1974. While in Thailand, Thompson was not only a businessman but a collector of Southeast Asian art. Beginning in 1958, Thompson designed and built "The House on the Klong" a traditional Thai-style house sitting on a canal, to house his extraordinary art collection. The house, still open as a museum today, is an impressive collection of art and architecture. This gorgeous book,…
