Description:
London: Collins, 1974. pp 200 A first edition of this humorous historical novel for children, illustrated throughout with delightful line drawings by the author. Inscribed by Sheila Sancha to British cartoonist and author John Ryan "To John and Priscilla with love and added thanks for writing so many words so well". Very good in blue cloth, spotting to the text block edges, in a good plus dust jacket, the panels are bright but creased, chipped and torn to the edges. John Ryan (1921 2009) was a British animator and cartoonist, best remembered for his character Captain Pugwash which began as a comic strip which spawned books and a TV series which was animated by Ryan in real time using a system of cut-out characters and boats, moved by hidden cardboard levers. We have acquired Pugwash artwork and a collection of books at a recent sale of items from Ryan's estate. Please contact Christian White at Modernfirsteditions if you would like more information.
