ROYAL BINDING OF GEORGE III bearing the royal coat of arms and cipher, flower and urns to borders; some rubbing to corners and hinges, but generally sound. Internally, very good.Provenance: George III's copy of the Book of common Prayer from the Chapel Royal, with the 1838 inscription of Edward Stanley, Bishop of Norwich, ' and Clerk of the King's Closet. After Stanley's death the volume was presented by his widow to Samuel Bignold Mayor of Norwich and includes her letter beging his acceptance of this "Royal Prayer Book."

KING GEORGE III's COPY with his monogram in gilt to both boards, bound in 18th c. red strait-grained morocco at the King's private bindery at Windsor. Front blank with date in pencil of February 13, [18]58, evidently purchased by Charles Butler of Warren Wood in 1858 for 15 shillings. Charles Butler (1821-1910), was a distinguished book collector who lived in London, but kept his library at Warren Wood in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. George III's personal bindery executed bindings from the 1780s-1820s and many of the finishing tools used are still housed at Windsor Castle.
