Amsterdam: Fw: Books, 2015. First edition. Signed by the author to the front. Red covers, softback. Colour photography throughout. 'Nationalfeiertag', is a book about one of the biggest, and most monitored squares in the world: Tiananmen Square in Beijing. In April and May of 1989 student protests took place and there was a massacre on June 4th. Officials and police attempted to control the images taken, but Katja Stuke filmed a few hours of material at the time and on the Chinese National Holiday in October. From this footage she extracted hundreds of portraits. The book combines these portraits with newspaper clippings which are collected and spread by the June 4th Museum in Hong Kong to keep the memory of the protests of 1989 alive. London: J. G. & F. Rivington, 1832. Reprint. A nice copy of this tract. Disbound or unbound. It is small, sewn booklet without covers. Clean and tidy, but with a little foxing to the front cover. Frequently this is found as a 'print on demand', but this is one of the uncommon tracts, in its original form. This is the second edition. Lyall was the Archdeacon of Colchester, and the Rector of Fairsted and Weeley in Essex.

Watson. Edited by G. E. W. Wolstenholme OBE, and Elaine C. P. Millar. Green hardback boards in excellent shape. No markings or writing inside. 57 illustrations. Dust jacket has scrape to lower back but otherwise in very good condition. 292 pages. 210 x 140 mm (8¼ x 5½ inches). The Ciba Foundation was established in London in 1947, it was an international educational and scientific centre, and it held conferences and symposiums, and subsequently published the proceedings.

Alexandria, 1882. An original, hand drawn sketch depicting a naval brigade clearing the streets of Alexandria. Ink on white paper. This would seem to have been an initial sketch, as the foreground (the brigade with the gun) is well worked, whilst the background is less defined. There are a couple of notes on the sheet. A couple of the figures in the sketch are also labelled Royal Marine and Officer. This would appear to be the first draft of a news report - similar to that which appeared as the front page of the Illustrated London News for July 29th 1882. Sketch is 240 x 160 mm. Good clean condition. It is pasted onto a larger sheet of pale brown card. This is 500 x 320 mm and is creased and darkened, and with a few closed tears. Haarlem & Rotterdam, 1847. Delightful album in the form of a small cloth covered box. Inside a folded decorative inner envelope, containing a selection of original artwork and keepsakes. In total there are 21 original miniature artworks. Comprising: one double size folded original pencil drawing with tissue guard, and eight other lovely pencil drawings. Also six colour original watercolours - all but one of exquisite flowers. One sepia scene of two hunters. And two watercolours done on rice paper. Also two delightful examples of cross stitch and one decoupage, all in flower designs. There is also one pinprick flower design, which is very intricate and skillfully done. There are three handwritten ink notes inside - all in Dutch. One of the notes signed C. Gleichman, talks approximately: "when you are in Haarlem, you will certainly get other girlfriends, but I hope that you will not forget the Rotterdamische". The other two notes are signed J. Edinburgh, 1821. This map is in lovely condition. Clean and tidy with a little edgewear / nicking to the edges only (not affecting detail). The colour is clean and bright. . A hand coloured map, taken from Thomson's "New General Atlas". This shows North Africa (including the whole of the Sahara and West Africa). As well as the hand coloured detail, the map shows the routes of Mr Browne, Mr Horneman, Mr Bruce and Mr Parks. Originally this map was paired in a double page, folio atlas with a similar map for South Africa (not present). 280 x 515 mm (11 x 20¼ inches).

Half title, which is a warning from the publisher about impersonations (Beware the 'Old Week's preparation' and the fake 'New Week's preparation' Frontis to verso of this. Title, with contemporary ownership signature. Imprimatur of George [II] to the verso of the title. The leather binding is a little rubbed and with a touch of cracking to the front hinge. A new front end paper has been added at some point. Still presentable. Internally in sound, but slightly darkened, state. Annotations / family tree to the rear end paper. Overall a decent copy. xi, 156. 156 pp.

New York: New York Central System, 1939. A lovely guide to the World's Fair at New York. Illustrated throughout with information for visitors to New York. There were regular monthly publications throughout 1939 giving up to date information. Aerial sketch map of the fair, and a folding map of New York and the subway system. 50 pages (inc covers). 230 x 100 mm (9 x 4 inches).

Berlin:: Robinson-Verlag, 1964. First Edition. This is chiefly illustrations (some colour). Robinson's book of ink drawings that show New York City's skyline and neighbourhoods in intense detail. He described it as "an X-ray" style that showed the city's buildings from outside and inside. This is the first edition (seems to be self published), with text and captions in both English and German. The book is unpaginated. Boards are a little age toned and rubbed, with one corner bumped. Inside very clean and tidy. We can't find any other copies of this edition for sale on line. 335 x 305 mm (13¼ x 12 inches).
