Stroud: Fonthill, 2020. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. First edition, first printing. Hardback in dustwrapper. 25.5 × 17.5cm, 864pp (576 pages of text and over 660 photographs on 288 pages). Outside of the Nazi hierarchy, Odilo Globocnik is almost certainly the most culpable in the planned and almost successfully executed attempt to annihilate all the Jews of Europe. In producing this book, the author was soon to discover several interesting facets to the history of this unsavory character. Not only did he play a leading role in the process of murdering the Jews, he was also the arch highwayman in the plunder of their possessions. Additionally, he was responsible for the compulsory uprooting of thousands of Polish non-Jewish citizens, the destruction of their communities, and the trafficking of enforced slave laborers. Often justifiably vilified for his crooked dealings as Gauleiter of Vienna, his function as asset stripper of the Polish Jews is overshadowed by his… Read More

London: Jonathan Cape, 1933. First Edition. . Hardback. Fair / Good. First edition, first printing. Hardback bound in the original blue cloth boards with printed white titling and design to spine and upper board. 19.5 × 13cm, 331pp. Lallie is one of four children of the eccentric, quintessentially English Rush family. Boating, bird watching and inter-family rivalry are the focus of life in their village - Pin Mill, on the Suffolk marshes. Brought up on fair play and the 'family sense of humour' the Rush children soon learn to fend for themselves - on water and on dry land. We watch as Lallie grows to adulthood; loving and hating her 'ordinary' family, carving a space for herself in the shadow of her beautiful sister Margaret, who claims the lion's share of everything. But Lallie is special too, clear, clear-sighted, sexually aware. Just as well, for to keep the man she loves she faces the biggest family fight of all. Condition: Fair condition but remaining in strong… Read More

Description:
London: Lawrence & Wishart, 1946. Reprint. . Hardcover. Good. Reprint. Hardback, bound in blue cloth with printed titling to spine and upper board. 19.5 × 12.5cm, 216pp. First published in 1884, The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State was a provocative and profoundly influential critique of the Victorian nuclear family. Engels argued that the traditional monogamous household was in fact a recent construct, closely bound up with capitalist societies. Under this patriarchal system, women were servants and, effectively, prostitutes. Only Communism would herald the dawn of communal living and a new sexual freedom and, in turn, the role of the state would become superfluous. Condition: A good reading copy. The spine is tanned and faded, the whole book a little dulled but otherwise in strong readable condition.

Original Artwork, 1970. No Binding. Good Plus. Painted in May 1970, this is an oil on board with pencil details in a wooden frame (but not glazed). The frame measures 49 × 49cm and the painting is 45 × 45cm. This is a work of abstract expressionism. It was inspired by the Hythe Ranges in Kent, an area on the coast used by the army for rifle practice. It depicts partial brick walls and huts with fencing, and the horizon being both near along the base and in the distance, where David has also added one of the sound mirrors, the concrete constructions along the Kent coast developed in the inter-war years to detect incoming enemy planes. This can be seen in the green hills of the middle distant to the right of the main grey brick structure. Signed and dated lower right, titled to the rear. David Holt (1928-2014). Born in Hythe, Kent.
