Description:
The book is in 'like new' condition except for miniscule wear at the two front cover corners and an inscription on the first fly-leaf page. The unclipped dj has some light soiling, an old price label stuck on the back of the dj and very light shelf wear top corners. We believe this is a first edition, first printing as there are no other indications of editions or printings on the publication page. From Wikipedia (abridged): " Pierre Toussaint (born Pierre; 27 June 1766 – June 30, 1853) was a Haitian-American hairdresser, philanthropist, and former slave brought to New York City by his owners in 1787. Freed in 1807 after the death of his mistress, Pierre took the surname of "Toussaint" in honor of the hero of the Haitian Revolution. In 1996, he was declared venerable by Pope John Paul II. Toussaint is the first layman to be buried in the crypt below the main altar of Saint Patrick's Cathedral on Fifth Avenue, generally reserved for bishops of the Archdiocese of New York."

Description:
A very handsome, old copy of the Dicken's classic. We don't have any hard information of its provenance. We suspect it was published in the late 19th century (based on when other Dicken's works were published by Cassell and Co.).The only dates shown is on the preface page - 1841, and an "86" - (1886?) at the bottom of the inscription -in German- at the top of the title page. The book is in very good condition, despite light age toning at edges and some foxing on the beginning and end pages. Leather like, but cloth, cover is in very good condition despite light wear at edges of spine and some fading on spine. No marks or tears or fold on pages.
