Manchester, J. E. Cornish, 1881 to 1885. Originally issued in monthly parts.Complete set of four volumes. A fifth volume was started but only the first issue appeared dated May 1885 and this is here bound in the back of volume four. The title continues " for the Intercommunication of Antiquaries, Bibliophiles, and other Investigators into the History and Literature of the counties of Lancaster, Chester etc. " A mine of out of the way information. Old half leather bindings, rubbed, but sound except that the front cover of volume four has cracked at the spine and is strengthened internally with a strip of paper. A thoroughlyl useable set. One important feature is the detailed description of the various sets of early 19th century views of Manchester.

Spon, [1882] Part 1, small 4to, pp.71. True Planes, Screw Threads and Standard Measures. Original card covers, a bit used and dusty, spine worn, but a sound copy.

Uppermill, Privately Printed, 1887 and 1891. Two volume set covering Marriages, Baptisms and Burials 1613 to 1751 and 1751 to 1800. Original green cloth, very nice, clean condition. Uncommon in this excellent state.

Smith, Elder, 1858, pp. xv, 286. Modern binding of calf spine and marbled boards. Good, sound condition.

London, Simpkin,Marshall and Co, 1844. Two volumes, pp. 288, 282. The first edition with a London imprint (though actually printed in Heywood and Manchester). First issued in parts between 1839 and 1840, then in volume form in 1842. In this edition the glossary is withdrawn from volume one and a table of contents is added, and four extra chapters dated 1844 are added to volume two. Original cloth a little rubbed, but sound. Contents a bit used, with some dirty thumb marks, but still an acceptable pair.

London,Erskine Macdonald,1916, first edition,pp.36,(6),original printed wrappers with yapp edges. A very nice,largely unopened copy of this early work by Blunden, published soon after he had left school.

1946, 32 pages, original card covers. Some page corners turned, else very good condition. On the first of the famous repeating firearms patented and promoted by Sam'l Colt.

London and Burnley, (1888), pp .(10), 538, (10), includes list of subscribers. Original cloth somewhat faded and rubbed, inner hinges cracked,( for some reason this book is seldom seen with a really nice,clean binding ). A sound reference copy.

Altrincham,Sherratt,1973, first edition, pp.x, (2), 291, colour frontispiece and numerous illustrations. Fine copy in dust jacket. Virtually as new. The story of the famous Warrington firm of file makers and clock-makers' tools producers up to 1840.

London School of Economics and Political Science, 1903, folio, pp. xlviii, 100, frontispiece facsimile of part of the manuscript. Original cloth, slightly rubbed, but very good condition.

Constable, 1911, pp. xxiv, 400. Original buckram. Some slight fading and trivial rubbing to top of spine, but an unusually good, fresh copy. Inserted is a scarce little, and rather scathing, pamphlet by Henry Harrison replying to Wyld's criticisms of his book on the Place-names of the Liverpool District and in return making criticisms of Wyld's book. There would appear to have been little love lost between the two authors.
