Biography of Captain Samuel Sturmy [ 1633 - 1669 ] and a new edition of his 'Mariner Magazine' . The book was a digest of navigational, astronomy, surveying & artillery information & advice, intended to educate mariners in the latest theories regarding these disciplines. The book went through 3 editions before being largely forgotten. Kenney gives a full description of the book, drawn from his own copies of 'The Mariners Magazine'. Well illustrated.

Odd volume of the 11th edition of an anatomy first published in 1828 under the authorship of Jones Quain [ 1796 - 1865 ].

[xvi]+434+14pp, octavo, engraved frontis ( relaid some time ago onto paper which has yellowed, endpapers likewise ), boards rubbed & bumped, occasional ink splash & burn mark not affecting the legibility, a few page margins thumbed & grubby, the book has been rebound at some time in the mid 19th C, a fair copy. Ex Libris Bishopric of Cornwall Rev Franke Parker Bequest with their bookplate dated 1883. Venice edition ( the first edition of 1679 was published in Florence with other editions appearing in Venice by 1684 ) of the Lenten sermons of the Jesuit preacher Paolo Segneri [ 1624 - 1694 ]. The sermons were much admired by Pope Innocent XII.

He hated her and vowed she would never be Queen, but she returned from exile in Italy to a raptuous welcome from the British population and whilst they despised King George for his wanton ways, they adord their new Queen.
