Columbia, S.C.: Charles A. Calvo, 1884. 8vo, 216pp, maroon cloth with black decoration and gilt lettering. This copy inscribed to front pastedown by O.J. Bates of Columbia, S.C, dated 1884, with additional handwritten correction in the same hand to errata leaf. Memoir of a long life lived in Columbia and the surrounding area, with much local history as well as a chapter on the civil war. Very good with wear and discoloration to covers, small stains to text block edges, foxing and toning.

Raymond Whitcomb Company, [1927]. Narrow octavo, color folding brochure with four panels each side. Illustrated brochure promoting "land cruises" from New York to California aboard "the most luxurious cars in the world." A fine copy.

Paris: Gabon Librairie/Bechet June, Librairie, 1822. Fourth edition. 8vo, xxvi, 538 pp, rebound in 20th century green library binding. Fourth edition of this medical text by Xavier Bichat, a prominent French anatomist and pathologist, known as the father of modern histology. Discoloration to binding along spine, mild foxing to pages, withdrawn from Yale University Library wtih bookplate to front pastedown noting this as the "Gift of Edward Clark Streeter, M.D." as well as a library stamp to the text block edge.

Anderson, South Carolina: Palmetto Publishing Co, No Date (Circa 1960). Octavo, red pictorial wrappers, spiral bound, [6], 130 pp, local ads throughout. Anderson, South Carolina community cookbook with a wide variety of recipes, including many southern favorites. Of interest is a section of children's recipes such as chocolate milk shake and peanut-butter toast, a section of "recipes for men," including fried shrimp and pork barbecue, and a section of recipes for brides. A nice copy with crease through center of front cover.

Charleston, South Carolina: Walker, Evans and Co, 1860. First edition. 8vo, original black decorative cloth with gilt lettering to center of front cover, 190pp plus a section of blank leaves with printed headers at the end. The text faithfully records each gravestone inscription in the cemetery. This copy inscribed by Louise Strohecker Boatwright of South Carolina to front endpaper. Cloth chipped at spine ends, soiling to covers, cloth worn along edges, toning and bit of foxing to pages.

Chicago: [Committee for the Relief of Belgian Prisoners in Germany], [1918]. 4to, broadside, with cartoon illustration of prisoners of war being horribly mistreated by German guards captioned "This is the Way Belgian Prisoners are Treated in Germany." Text seeks to raise money for feeding and supplying these prisoners by describing how horribly mistreated they are: "allied soldiers have been tortured physically, mentally, and morally until it would seem as if God himself must release His lightnings and strike to the earth, the fiends incarnate who dared to so torment human beings who have no power to help themselves." Toned and creased, with a few small tears along margins.

Johnston, 1844. 8vo, 63pp, two plates of illustrations, 20th century quarter green cloth with marbled boards, original printed wrappers bound in after text, surrounded by some kind of archival paper (unsure if can be removed). Scarce report on South Carolina's geography by an Irish immigrant who became state surveyor. Toning and foxing to pages, tear through last leaf archivally repaired.

Knoxville, Tennessee: S.B. Newman & Co, 1907. 8vo, red cloth with gilt lettering, 324, [8] pp of ads. Tennessee charity cook book compiled for the benefit of the Girls' Department of the Knox County Industrial School, featuring "a collection of practical tested recipes by many of the best housekeepers throughout the United States." A very good copy with wear and discoloration to covers, toning to pages, half-title page a tad loose,

Washington: Government Printing Office, 1905. 9.5 x 6.25", stapled booklet, 34 pp. A pamphlet issued by the United States government related to the leasing of allotted Cherokee lands in Indian Territory (today Oklahoma). Allotment, "the federal policy of dividing communally held Indian tribal lands into individually owned private property, was the culmination of American attempts to destroy tribes and their governments and to open Indian lands to settlement by non-Indians and to development by railroads" (okhistory.org). These regulations, passed by Congress on July 1, 1902, and ratified by the Cherokee on August 7, 1902, allowed for the economic exploitation of allotted Cherokee lands via their leasing, especially for oil and gas mining interests. New Orleans, Louisiana: Louisiana State Rice Milling Co., Inc, 1919. Octavo, pictorial wrappers, 48 pp. Promotional cookbook by a Louisiana rice manufacturer. The first 28 pages are devoted to a discussion of the advantages of rice and of rice culture and cultivation. This section prints many illustrations from drawings, mostly showing the cultivation and consumption of rice in China. It touts the nutritional and economic advantages of rice, its versatility, and benefits to infants and the sick, before launching into a history of rice culture, and description of the "primitive" Asian methods and advanced modern methods of the crop's cultivation. The rest of the book prints rice recipes, including many recipes for gumbos and jambalayas, as well as recipes rice with tomatoes Mexican style, Greek rice, rice tortillas, and Vienna rice custard. An attractive copy with mild tearing, chipping, and creasing to wrappers, bit of foxing to pages.

Number 27 of a limited large paper edition of 100. This copy belonged to horse racing icon Cothran "Cot" Campbell, and is inscribed to him by his father, William T. Campbell, on the front endpaper, dated 1969. Bookplate of William T. Campbell to front pastedown. Covers worn with leather cracked and chipped, front hinge broken with front cover and endpaper detaching, rear hinge cracked.
