Boards are covered in clear Mylar protection, but appear in good condition underneath. Inside a little foxing, and a few finger marks. Otherwise all good. 192 pages. 205 x 245 mm (8 x 9¾ inches).

London: The Ballantyne Press / Hacon & Ricketts / John Lane, 1901. First edition. A lovely copy of this pseudonymous work. One of 290 copies (Edition limited to 290 unnumbered copies, including 10 on vellum, we offer one of the 280 on Arnold's handmade paper). Green buckram spine, with paper covered boards. The paper shows leaves blowing in the wind. Slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine. The paper label is a little rubbed and darkened, but still legible. Externally very good overall. Inside, the book is an immaculate copy, with fractional foxing to the initial pages, and a touch of darkening to the front and rear end papers, otherwise spotless. Opening with a nice ornamented border in black figuring on top Janus, on left the medal of Comodus, and the Amazon and her moon-shaped shield, and below the Nemean lion's skin and Herakles' mace. Plymouth: n/a, 1829. An attractive original watercolour of the beach and harbour at Plymouth, with title and date of 1829. By unknown French artist. Mounted on white card (somewhat darkened). The picture itself is in very good, bright condition. Held in a later (mid 20th century) wooden frame. Watercolour is 13.5cm x 9cm Frame is 22cm x 18cm. Une jolie aquarelle française de la plage et du port de Plymouth, avec titre et date de 1829. Montée sur carton blanc (un peu assombri). L'image elle-même est en très bon état lumineux. Tenu dans un cadre en bois plus tard (milieu du XXe siècle). L'aquarelle mesure 13,5 cm x 9 cm. Le cadre mesure 22 cm x 18 cm.

Searle will make you laugh and, more importantly, these are some of his finest drawings. A book for Searle connoisseurs. Dust jacket has been crudely repaired, but this is only obvious if the dust jacket is removed. Very clean boards, and pages inside. 120 pages. 250 x 190 mm (9¾ x 7½ inches).

The dust jacket is darkened to top on both front and back, and spine is darkened with small closed tear to the head. The extremities are rubbed and nicked. Bookplate tipped-in to FFEP. Rubbed to verso of title - appears to be where a reference number has been removed. Page 24 has once been torn and repaired. 111 pp. 220 x 145 mm (8¾ x 5¾ inches).

The head has been crudely glued, and the bottom edge corners worn through. Slightly weak to the front hinge. Owner's bookplate (Francis de Neufville Schroeder - author of works on Interior Design). Page edges moderately browned, with small stain to top right corner of pages 131 - 146. Not affecting text. Page 47 / 48 has had a small tear at the bottom, now neatly repaired with archival tape. Title, introduction & contents, text. Originally published in English as "Enquiries touching the Diversity of Languages, and Religions through the cheife Parts of the World." in 1614, this copy is the first French edition. The vellum is a little darkened and marked, but without chips or tears. Owner's label is clean and bright. The title page has been reinforced to the open edge. The binding is very slightly shaken, but holding well. Fractional darkening only. A couple of tiny tears to the edges of the end papers, without loss. Overall a very nice copy. Overall a decent copy of this work. The binding has recently been professionally restored, so is now strong and tidy. Just a touch of marking to the buckram. Clean original yellow end papers. The work is complete and tidy, and has benefited from being re-cased. The title page has a little marking to it, and there is a touch of darkening throughout the work. Full colourphoto book, with portraits of models / every day people wearing uniforms and clothes from WW2. Re-enactors heralded a return to documentary portraiture for Naughten, using post-production techniques to create a powerful collusion with its subjects and composite images that blend landscapes with action scenes. Owner's signature of Francis Vine. He was the vicar of Eastington, Stonehouse in Gloucestershire, member of Kent Archaeological society. and author of "Caesar in Kent: an Account of the Landing of Julius Caesar and His Battles With the Ancient Briton" Published in 1888. No doubt this work was an essential reference to him. The buckram is in good clean condition, but with a couple of small splits to the spine edges. Paper label darkened and a little chipped. Library label to the front pastedown. Intermittent small library stamps throughout. Owner's signature to the half title. Binding is a little shaken, but holding. Intermittent foxing. Taken from: Het Koningrijk der Nederlanden - presented in a series of picturesque views drawn from nature. Under a grey mount / passe partout, so it's perfect for framing. London : S. W. Fores, 1827. Hand coloured engraving of the bare knuckle boxer Reuben Martin, by T. Jones. Reads: Reuben Martin. Born at Bristol, 1801. Stands 5ft 9½ in, weighs 11st. 4lb. This portrait was created after a big fight between Martin and another boxer named Randal, on Crawley Downs. 440 x 305 mm (17¼ x 12 inches).
