Description:
2.375" x 4" cdv photo of a woman showing off her long tresses. The photo is credited to Clifford & Gibson's Art Studio, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There is a name written on the verso in pencil, which looks like M. F. Papendick. It appears as though the photographer or sitter, added some ink contrast marks to her hair. Light corner wear, as seen in the scan. In good overall condition.

Description:
94 photos of Eastern European intellectuals, politicians of the Russian Empire and royalty circa 1895-1920. I believe that most portraits are Russian, but Ukrainian and Polish men are likely represented as well. It appears that many of these portraits were likely used in a published book. A few photos have crop marks and masks that indicate publishers' edits. In this collection are deputies of various provinces in Russia, namely Tver, Moscow, Ryazan, Mogilev, and others. This distinction is written in pencil in French (below Russian calligraphy) on the verso of the photos. Many are marked with a back-stamp of Russian origin. There is a newspaper clipping of Ivan Pavlov, Russian physiologist who is accredited with the discovery of classical conditioning. Below the photo reads: "used in Digest 2/26/[19]21." A few photos are outliers among the Eastern European headshots. List follows. A portrait of Count Udo of Stolberg-Wernigerode, the newly elected President of the German Reichstag. Photo credited…

Description:
8" x 12" photo album with red felt covers with text in Russian, which translates to "Memories of my time in the GDR" (German Democratic Republic aka East Germany ). Inside there are over 50 photos pasted to the page. Most of the photos are of men in uniform, mainly at leisure. There is text on the last page that is some kind of order from the minister of such and such and talks about the Army and the Navy.... One page has writing in pencil, that a Russian friend of mine said were names. The part of the album that I find fascinating, is there are 18 onion skin protective sheet with a hand-done black ink illustrations, between the pages. There is one of a gal that reminds me of Twiggy, a couple dancing, and of course there are tanks and men at war. Two of the pages have ink smudges, there are a couple of edge bends and a small tear or two. Many of the photos are faded. An usual artistic take of a military album.

In this journal, Friend and her classmates record significant events, inside jokes, and farewell messages. During her sophomore year Vivian transferred from Randall High School to Randall Rural High School. Friend was a member of the student government in which she held various positions, including president in her freshman year and assistant editor during her senior year. She also held minor roles in school plays and musicals. Farewell messages from classmates shower Friend with praise and many demand attention in her later years. One reads: "When you are old and gray sit down by the fireside and read this little letter. While reading it let your mind relate these facts these facts and live again as you once did...". Another recounts of the senior party in 1926: "One little senior girls was too timid to invite her "Boy Friend"…
