Gilded stamp on front reads, "Modern Library," with initials B&L, and an image of a man writing at a desk. Title, author, and publisher gilded on spine. Misssing Dust Jacket. Overall very good/good condition. Slight tear at bottom on spine (very minimal) with some light discoloaration in the same area. Corners are slightly bent and some additional light rubbing on spine. Top fore edge bluer than others. Signature of former owner inside the front cover. Inside covers is a two page illustration by Horace Brodzky. First blank and pre-title page toned, otherwise pages are clean. Anatole France was a 19th and early 20th century French poet, journalist, and novelist who won the 1921 Nobel Prize in Literature.

Contemporary, first hand account of the troop movements throughout Andalusia of Brigadier Conde de Valdecañas against the rebellious, Carabineros Brigade led by Rafael del Riego during the brief liberal rebellion favoring the return of the 1812 constitution. This rebellion successfully resulted in the Trienio Liberal, or three years of liberal rule, within Spain before an invading French army reasserted royal authority in 1823. Bound in 19th century marbled boards with corner and quarter leather and gilded lettering on the spine. Joints rubbed and cracked with some rubbing to spine, gently scuffed corners; all holding firmly. Marbled endpapers and contemporary to binding blanks. No title [uncertain if one was ever present, I have not found any examples]. The interior is clean and clear. Publication details at te end. Pages: (4) 43 (5) Dimensions: 7½ x 5(5/8) x (3/8) .
