The leather is cracked at the spine edges, the hinges are still secured but loosening- handle with a little care. The text is complete, light toning and marking. Inscription on the endpaper stating the book was a gift from Henry Duke of Grafton in 1855. Pages; (2), 155. Size; 106 by 105mm.

Pale matt salmon coloured cloth binding with dark purple decoration on the front cover and spine. Fading to the cloth colour, a few marks on the rear cover. The hinges are in good order. The text is complete, bright and tidy internally, the page edges are uncut, browning to the endpapers. A 1st edition of this scarce novel by Lieut Col R. Manifold Craig.

Toning to the pages, some foxing spots to the margin fore-edges in places, browning to the mapped endpapers, rear inner hinge loosened a bit and with cloth strengthening, inscription on the half title page. With 24 sheets of plates (checked complete- plate 2 consists of 2 plates, so actually 25 sheets of plates), illustrations in the text. Travels on the south coast of England, (Richborogh, Reculver, Dover, Lympne, Pevensey, Porchester, Brancaster), with much in the way of history, lovely illustrations.
