Pratt underneath and inscribed "bought at Thomas Wrights auction (?) Nov. 17th, 1864." Light toning and spotting to endpapers; brief tape repair to frontis verso; interior else legible throughout. Very Good. Includes "Mankind universally apt to trust in their own Righteousness," "Hope the Anchor of the Soul," and "The Last Words of Christ to his Disciples," among others. According to the publisher, eight sermons previously unpublished.

Running counter to the modern-day misapprehension of what Thanksgiving is all about, Frisbie here gives thanks to "the happy success of our arms against our savage neighbours, who had so long, and so frequently harrassed [sic] our frontiers, and committed cruel ravages upon the lives and properties of our brethren" (p. 18). Uncommon sermon by the Connecticut Congregationalist minister and librarian, followed by an appendix "containing the minutes of the General Consociation Holden [sic] at Guilford, November 1741, by order of the General Assembly. Supposed to have been lost.

Toning to endpapers with Savile Book Shop sticker to rear pastedown, but interior otherwise unmarked. A Very Good copy of the National Book Award for Poetry winner.

Slightly ex-library with faint and brief internal markings to early leaves including pressure stamp to title page, a later (19th century?) hand has added manuscript pagination throughout, dark staining along bottom quarter of most of the textblock, else a Good to Very Good copy of an uncommon work. Collection of three sermons on the subject of sin delivered by Samuel Hopkins (1721-1803), a student of Jonathan Edwards'. ESTC W3322; EVANS 8372.

Slim octavo; contemporary half gilt-ruled morocco over green cloth by John Bumpus, gilt-tooled spine in six compartments, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers, pictorial cloth from the original binding bound in front, viii,[9]-56pp.; hand-colored frontispiece and added title page plus six leaves of hand-colored plates. Leather apparently toned to brown (tipped in description from the auction of the Salomon library describes the leather as "green"), extremities a bit rubbed, some light spotting to both covers; overall Very Good, contents clean and colored plates remain quite brilliant. Contemporary armorial ex libris to front pastedown of Sir David Salomon (1797-1873), the British Liberal politician who served as London's first Jewish Sheriff in 1855.
