Description:
This album seems to focus on people at Paul's Pacific Gym in San Diego. Two contests are mentioned, Mr. Pacific Shore and Mr. Novice San Diego. The bodybuilders pictured are multiracial, but the album belonged to a white man. The middle section is full of family photos and the end goes back to the gym. There are also images of baseball, cheerleading, a trip to a ranch, and around San Diego.
The photos are both black and white and color and most appear to be late 1970s. The album has a vinyl cover with a spiral inside that is detached. The outside is a bit worn as well. The pages were once sticky, with the plastic that went over the photos, but a lot of the photos are loose and I bet it wouldn't take much to remove them if you wanted to. The photos are mostly in very good condition.

Description:
The woman who features in most of these images is identified on the back of one of them as Silence Dorothy Buck. The photos seem to be by a Ned Hungerford. The one of him in the group, a dashing, mustachioed man wearing glasses, is inscribed, "To my friend Silence." He also signed the back of a photo of a Hugh William Towne, identified as production manger at the Theatre Arts Club (in??). There are a several other images of the handsome Towne, one from the same sitting as the signed one. A soft-focus still of Silence and other actors in a scene has what could be an N.H. monogram in the corner. I couldn't find out much about any of the three other than Hungerford might have worked in Rochester, NY. There seem to be a few other images of his online. They are akin to these. I'm guessing that these could have been Silence's personal images from a stint at a certain theater but that's only conjecture.
Back to the photos themselves. Hungerford, if they were all by him, was a very good photographer. The… Read More

Description:
If the codes at the top left are dates, these images were taken in September 1937 and August 1938. I'm selling them as artistic images. Although I recognize there is a confidential stamp on the back of each one, I think it's safe to say that after all this time, I think we're good. I really love the grey tones, the shadows, and the tracks the mountain ridges and rivers make. One river is traced in yellow pencil.
The photos range in condition, but they were used and not made for art, so that is to be expected. Some have little areas of image loss at the edges. A few have spots and all have a bit of a curl, as they were probably stacked together for quite some time. There are some little corner bends as well.

Description:
The Studios of Europe was first published in London, with this, the First Authorized American Edition, arriving in 1882. There were also German and French editions. Pritchard, the Secretary of the Photography Society of Great Britain, devotes most of the book to studios in that country. Despite the title, most of Europe proper gets barely a glance. Pritchard's writing is conversational and he clearly knows many of the photographers personally and a lot about photography. Much about technical advances is discussed and there are a lot of diagrams, illustrations, hints for studio set ups, furniture, character studies, and even chemical mixtures.
After the index, there are over 40 pages of advertising for firms in the United States. One of Anthony's advertisements, featuring a woman studio photographer, is of particular note and more and more women were taking up the art. The advertisements are all for supply houses and therefore marketed to studios and photographers, the intended audience for the book… Read More
