A good mystery written in the style of the 1930s but it should also be read in the context of Art and the Group of Seven. Brooker is considered a member and the first Canadian to exhibit abstract art. Several of the Group were followers of Theosophy and the cult leader appears to be based on Madam Blavatsky.
