As new; "In these masterful short stories, many of which are set against the harsh but spectacular American prairie, Pulitzer Prize winner Willa Cather captures the sweeping drama of the West and the spirit of its people. Rich with autobiographical elements from the Nebraska of Cather's childhood, these stories convey luminously the conflict between character and environment, and the pioneer virtues of perseverance courage and dignity.
