James Gabriel Huquier (17251805), known as Huquier fils, the son of the roccoco engraver Gabriel Huquier, was a portrait-painter and engraver. Published by Chereau (1688-1776), portrait engraver, printmaker and publisher of optical prints in a neighborhood of printmakers at the Rue Saint-Jacques variously given on prints as "au Grand St. Remy," "au Coq," or "au dessus de la Grand St. Remy," "au Coq," or "au dessus de la Fontaine St. Severin". From about 1740[6] to about 1820[7] optical prints, also called "vue about 1820[7] optical prints, also called "vue optique" or vue d'optique prints were made to be viewed through a Zograscope, or other devices of convex lens and mirror, all of which produced optical illusion of depth. copper engraving. One of the EXTREMELY RARE GLOBE GORES depicting different parts of the world. Map shows the track of Le Maire, many native vessels surrounding his ship, and a huge and elaborate cartouche. This exceptional series of globe gores was originally engraved for a 110 cm. diameter terrestrial globe in 1688 - as here. They were subsequently reissued in individual sheet format in Coronelli's "Libro dei globi" and in his World Atlas Isolario in the 1690s. "Coronelli seems to have sought to omit nothing that might be of interest to geographers, navigators and explorers. There are an unusual number of legends, all explanatory and informative, but which never crowd the space available. Many of the vignettes of ships and fishing scenes throughout the world are worthy of separate reproduction.
