Victoria Station

PINTER, Harold

  • Quantity available: 1
[London] 1982, 1982. Typescript copy of the screenplay of Victoria Station, one of a trilogy of plays published and first performed at the Cottesloe Theatre in 1982 (the other two being A Kind of Alaska and Family Voices). 300x210mm. pp. [ii], 21 leaves. Bound with two metal split pin fasteners with maroon card covers. Very good copy with some slight shelfwear. On the rear of the final leaf has been written (not in Pinter's hand), "Priest/confessional". Victoria Station is a darkly comic radio dialogue between a taxi driver and his "controller". As with Pinter's screenplay for The Servant, the relationship between the two becomes menacingly inverted.

From the Library of the Earls of Macclesfield, the front pastedown has the bookplate from the South Library. An attractive volume bringing together a series of letters by Thomas Pyle in support of Benjamin Hoadly's (Bishop of Bangor) Whiggish Low Church supinity. The final letter is a reply to Pyle. The whole controversy has an air of Big-endians versus Little-endians although it now appears to be little more than a minor crack in the great rift in English political life currently manifested in the tribal wars between Leave and Remain. 1. A Vindication of the Lord Bishop of Bangor wherein is considered the true Notion of Religious Sincerity, as available to the Salvation of Men; and o ... Read more

New York: Visionaire 1997, 1997. Limited edition of 3000. Dark blue vinyl case with a pack of large playing cards inside. All inside a white card box. The images on the cards were each designed by individual art directors including Fabien Baron, Mario Testino (who photographed John Galliano as the King of Diamond while Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin photographed Iman as the Queen. The 3,000 issues of Visionaire 21 were packaged in individual jewellery boxes, each with its own lock and key, and offered a real diamond for one lucky subscriber. Sadly no diamond with this one. And this is missing the key but otherwise, this is is a very nice example of Visionaire's stylish and louche work.
