There are 80 numbered pages in this 6" x 8.5" catalog from Vantine's - The Oriental Store, New York, which was an importer of Asian goods from 1866-1921. The catalog has both black and white pages and some in vivid color, and features such items as children's toys, chinaware, foot ware, kimonos, toiletries, hand fans, etc. There is a stain to the bottom left of the cover which can be seen, less and less for about 20 pages. Also included is an unused postcard from Vantine's, which show summer home furnishing.

3.5" x 5.5" real photo postcard of a vase of flowers with some of the flowers not yet put into the vase. Used and postmarked 1913 from Lawrence, Michigan. In good overall condition.

Three 8" x 10" photos of vending machines, featuring Coca-Cola, coffee, ice cream, cold drinks, etc. Back stamp for the photographer, David K. Johnson, Dover, NH. The three are in good condition.

8" x 10" photo album showing the effects of syphilis in men, women and children. Circa 1910s album has fifty, mostly 5" x 7" photos, of which ten contain two images and four appear to be x-rays. Photos are glued to the page by the corners. Some corners are loose, and you can see a name and number written on the back. No photos have been removed, but the last few pages of the album are unused. This album came from the library of Guy Hayne Mize, a San Francisco based General Practitioner. It is uncertain if he put together this album or acquired it elsewhere. Dr. Mize had a handful of papers on dermatological issues published in the California State Journal of Medicine and the Journal of American Medical association during the 1910s. The photographs show people of all ages suffering from what appears to be Syphilis, with disfiguring rashes, hair loss, open sores, and in some cases, massive lesions.

Twelve 5" x 7" photos, each dated 1949 and identified in ink as being from Venezuela. Scenic and city views of Caracas. Identifications include: Caracas, Avila Mountain, Woman selling lottery tickets, Red Light District, Overlooking the Andes, Avila Hotel, etc. There are some paper remnants on the versos, as these must have been in an album at one time. In overall good condition.

1940. 2.75" x 4.5625" vintage snapshot portrait photo of a young girl dressed up as a Dutch maiden, surrounded by a mask, jack-o-lantern, candle stick, and noisemaker. She stands before a large floral painting and a portrait of a woman; there's just something a little haunting about it all. In good condition.

Victorian Cartes de Visite photo album with 18 hand-tinted photos with a few embellished pages. Photos are credited to C. R. Pottinger and C.E. Alder of Cheltenham. I didn't pull them all out, but at least two are identified. The album measures 5" x 6" and has 9 leaves with slots to insert photos, one photo per side. The covers are green calf on padded boards with an embossed design. There is wear to the covers and the clasp is missing. A few of the slots, where you insert the photos, are torn. Superb tinting of photos of both men and women in fancy dress. Circa 1860s.

There are eighty-eight pics in this 10.5" x 12" cloth bound album, which is covered in plastic. It starts with about 33 snapshots from a trip to Hawaii, that are date stamped 1970. There is one photo in this section from Vietnam, along with some Vietnamese currency. In the back, there are about 55 snaps from Vietnam, which look to be from the 1960s. This is one of those albums with the sticky pages with the plastic covering. I lifted off a few and some are identified on the verso. Looks like whomever put this together, worked for the Narc team in Vietnam, and there are a few snapshots which look to contain drugs. There is also some ephemera and postcards from Hawaii. One of the plastic page covers is torn and loose and the photos on that page are loose as well. Perhaps one photo is missing, or just never added, otherwise the album is in overall good condition.

There are eighty-four snapshots, in both black & white and color, of the 11th Communications Detachment outpost in Vietnam. There are photos of the barracks, soldiers, sergeants, platoons, planes in air, a plane crash site, aerial views, at the gun range, and leisure moments at the beach. Most photographs speak for themselves, though some are labeled with handwriting directly on the photograph. Captions include: "Shinai & Huff preparing for full field layout. Huff Died mortar attack 3AM 29 May 1968", "First Sgt. Counts", "Gooks"... Eight leaves, sixteen pages contained in a green folder. Written inside the front cover is "11th Communication Det. BDE Comm Plat. 11th Sig. Plat." In very good condition.

Ten 3.5" x 5" snapshots taken from atop of the World Trade Center in the early 1970s. Written on the verso of one photo is " Taken from WTC before completion on #2." All are in good overall condition. Please look at scans.

1962. 4.375" x 3" vintage snapshot photo of a frozen bird-feeder through the window blinds in a trailer park. What appears to be a black-capped chickadee sits on the feeder. Written on the back reads "WINTER 1961-1962 BIRD-FEEDER, taken from trailer window in Belton, MO". In good condition.

Written on each of these four circa 1970s photos is "Credit Timothy Asch." Asch (1932-1994) had an important role in the development of visual anthropology. While at Columbia University in the 1950s, he was a teaching assistant to Margaret Mead. He also had apprenticeships with the Photographers, Minor White, Edward Weston and Ansel Adams. He received his M.A. in African Studies from Boston University (with an anthropology concentration at Harvard in 1964). These photos by Asch each have a label for Stephen Thomas of Cambridge, Mass., who must have owned these images. They each measure about 9.5" x 13.5," either slightly smaller or slightly larger. While it is obvious that these are from Africa, I don't know where. I rescued these from a flea market, and each one has a small water stain, though you can't really tell on the front of the image. There is also some minor creasing.

Fifty 1.75" x 3.5" circa 1930s risque and pornographic photos of one couple in the act. The photos show several different positions and one sex toy. The woman is clearly wearing a wig and is shown by herself a few times. The man never directly faces the camera. All of the photos are printed on real photo postcard stock and there are no identifying markings. I've hidden some body parts in the photos, so if you'd like an unaltered scan, let me know. The photos remain in very good condition. *Not all photos are shown.

12 x 10" textured black album; the inside front cover has a bookplate which contains an illustration and reads: "This book belongs to Mary C. Hagans." Contains around 250 black and white vernacular photos from the 1920s of Mary's friends and family, not including around 40 commerical travel photos. Mary mostly includes pictures of her family and friends, children, and boxing. Places she visited include Parkersburg, West Virginia; Alexandria, Virginia; Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; Washington, D.C.; Vernon, Virginia; and Arlington, Virginia. There are amusing and information photos of the rates of toll on the Cumberland Road in Pennsylvania and Hobbs Grade and Surface Guide. Photographs measure between 2.75 x 2" and 5.75 x 3.5" and are glued to the pages, accompanied by some partially faded annotations that mostly identify locations. The album is not completely full.

Fifty-six 8"x 10" promotional photos from the Vogue Dolls, Inc. Most of these circa 1950s photos, have "Vogue Dolls, Inc." and a code number at the bottom. A few don't. There are a few pics of Ginny dolls in different outfits. There are also photos of her brother Jeff, and several other dolls including babies. Outfits include ballerinas, a doll with a parasol, a nurse with a hot water bottle, fashionable dresses, swimwear, dance-wear, a bathrobe, etc. Vogue dolls was started by Jennie Graves, who named her first doll Ginny, after her daughter Virginia. In post war America, every little girl wanted a Vogue doll. The photos are in good condition. Three have creases.
