About This Item

Franconia, New Hampshire, 1915. Inscribed photograph; silver print, 4 1/2" x 6 1/2"

A scarce, early photograph of Frost seated in his writing chair, inscribed in the lower left corner "Your friend R.F. at home."

This image is reproduced in Jay Parini's Robert Frost : A Life, where it is described as taken at Frost's home in Franconia, New Hampshire in 1915. In her Robert Frost : A Pictorial Chronicle, Kathleen Morrison notes "The major part of his later writing occurred as he sat in the Morris chair at the cabin with his homemade lapboard propped on his knee in front of him. In fact it would be safe to say that the greater part of his poetry started in that chair, which he had bought while he was a student at Harvard in 1897 and which he carried with him to Derry and later Franconia, Ann Arbor, and Amherst and to its final destination, the Homer Noble farm." A wonderful, inscribed copy of this iconic image of Frost at work.
