About This Item
New York: Julian Messner, Inc., 1967. 190 pages with several black and white maps and illustrations From book: "James Marshall's discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill in California in 1848, was a clarion call that rang throughout the nation, inspiring dreams of fabulous wealth in men from every walk of life. The result was a virtual stampede to the gold fields, nearly two hundred thousand men in two years. They battled every hardship known to man, dug fortunes from the earth, built cities overnight, performed heroic acts and infamous crimes, and changed forever the frontier life of that remote land." We noted underlining on four pages in the back of the book, marginalia on one of the illustrated pages; bumped and worn corners and a name written on outside pages.
