About This Item

Simon and Schuster, 1945. first edition. hardcover. very good: age wear/spotting to boards and spine, mild bump, name on illustrated FFEP, text clean, binding tight./no DJ. 8vo 301pp. Historical account of a U.S. soldier of fortune's career in the Philippines. from Foreword: "There were, I found, all sorts of ways to tell this story. The facts are these: Iliff David Richardson went out to the Philippines about a year before the war as an officer on the U.S.S. Bittern, a mine sweeper. He then transferred to the famous "expendable" motor torpedo boat Squadron 3, commanded by John D. Bulkeley, and fought these boats until they were shot out from under him. Then he involved himself in the guerrilla movement on Leyte, worked up to chief of staff to Col. Ruperto Kangleon, and ultimately became primarily responsible for the radio network which was General MacArthur's light back to Leyte." #00865.
